Mega Mergers continue with Allen & Overy and Shearman & Sterling set to create world’s 3rd largest law firm.

If approved by a vote of partners at both firms, the soon to be “A&O Shearman” would be one of the largest law-firm mergers in recent years and result in a firm with nearly 4,000 attorneys is 49 offices worldwide, and almost $3 and half billion in global revenue.  With the vast majority of that coming from A&O.

BigLaw appears to be cracking the virtual whip and linking in office attendance to associate bonuses

Simpson Thatcher along with Ropes & Gray, Sidley, Davis Polk, and Cahill are now tying office attendance to associate bonuses.  Compliance with in-office attendance policies, which are still more lax than pre-pandemic with three days a week on average, will now be considered a part of overall performance evaluation.

Nixon Peabody and Stroock see the merger smoke and do nothing to put out the fire

With merger talk widely reported as inevitable by Bloomberg Law and others Nixon Peabody and Stroock & Stroock & Lavan both refused to confirm or deny a rumor that they are planning to merge.
